Hash Umbrella Stand

Every detail comes from a solution. Every choice starts with an observation.#Hash may look quiet. But it speaks volumes about material logic, spatial rhythm, and how everyday rituals deserve better tools.

We didn’t begin with aesthetics, we began with geometry.

Our goal was to create the most compact umbrella stand possible. So we studied umbrellas, not just as objects, but as spatial behaviors. We looked at how long umbrellas tilt and rest, and how folding ones disappear into deep containers.

A modular, cross-shaped grid ( # ) made of alternating square openings came to mind:

• Smaller cells to gently anchor the pointed tips of long umbrellas
• Larger square pockets to cradle compact folding ones upright

This configuration gave us more capacity with less bulk.
It kept both umbrella types visible, upright, and organized. Without clutter, without compromise.

The form wasn’t a stylistic choice. It was an answer.
It wasn’t an aesthetic decision. But it became one.

We noticed how most umbrella stands trap canopies, forcing them to collapse inward and dry slowly. So we designed #Hash to do the opposite. Each umbrella stands partially open, naturally ventilated, allowing water to shed, and forms to rest undisturbed. 

It’s not just neater. It’s faster. Healthier. Gentler.

Water trays often do more harm than good. They fill with stagnant puddles and hidden grime. We wanted rain to flow and evaporate, just like it does outdoors. So we built discreet drainage ports into #Hash’s rubber base. 

Water runs off. Air dries it out. The base is removable for easy cleaning.

Entryways are rarely symmetrical. Some are narrow. Some stepped. Some shared. #Hash is designed to adapt. Each unit is self-contained, but stackable vertically or side by side.

Its rubber footing not only protects floors, but also provides alignment and grip, so units feel architectural, not improvised.

You don’t place it, you compose it.

On rainy days, units can be spread out to welcome multiple umbrellas.
On clear days, they can be stacked neatly to reclaim space and restore visual calm.

Injection molding typically requires draft angles, slight tapers that allow parts to release from the mold. But draft angles distort alignment. They break the stack. They betray geometry. We refused to accept that.

So we developed a six-sided tooling process— a rare, complex, and costly method. 
It allowed us to keep walls perfectly vertical, so each unit stacks with absolute precision, no gaps, no lean, no compromise.

We didn’t choose a six-sided mold because it was easier. We chose it because it was the only way to achieve what we believed in. But this decision came with consequences.
Unlike traditional top-and-bottom molds, six-sided molding introduces split lines in nearly every direction. Gating points become scattered, and surfaces must be finished with extreme care, often in tight corners where machines can’t reach.

So we turned to what machines can’t do: human hands.

Every #Hash Umbrella Stand must be hand-finished by expert technicians with years of experience in metal surface work, craftspeople trained not only in technique but in sensitivity to geometry, light, and pressure.
This is not just polishing. It’s interpretation. And it’s the only way we could keep every surface crisp, every line clean, and every piece aligned to our original vision.

Because the product is solid, weighty, and formed as one seamless piece, the packaging had to follow suit. We designed a custom internal frame to support its weight, with every fold and surface echoing the same structural logic.
The exterior carries that same architectural clarity: a simplified form with a subtle deboss that mirrors the grid within. It’s not just protective. It’s an introduction. Quietly precise. Ready to be received. And thoughtful enough to give.
